On May 21, Boris Babin, a legal advisor at BARRISTERS LLC, participated in an international conference on “Improving the Legal Framework, Judicial Practice, and Training Programs on Internal Displacement”

The first session of the international conference focused on “Five Years of Internal Displacement: Developing Long-Term Solutions.”

The second session featured a discussion on improving Ukraine’s national legislation and judicial practice regarding the protection of the rights of internally displaced persons, as well as key achievements and challenges.

During the third session, participants in the international conference reviewed the European Human Rights Training Program for Legal Professionals (HELP): the Council of Europe’s course on internal displacement.

The fourth session focused on national legislation regarding internal displacement, updated recommendations for baseline assessments, and Ukraine’s judicial practice on internal displacement, along with avenues for improvement.

Boris Babin, a legal advisor at BARRISTERS Law Firm, was invited by the speakers to briefly outline the procedures for protecting the rights of internally displaced persons in international judicial and administrative bodies. He emphasized the need for effective verification of the number of forcibly displaced persons, particularly in light of data from the State Voter Registry obtained following the 2019 presidential election.
