Baristers, JSC continues to assist the families of prisoners of war

Today, our attorneys Andrii Yosypov and Marisa Skuba, along with legal counsel Serhii Lankin, held a joint meeting—with the participation of the families of Ukrainian defenders currently held captive—with representatives of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Ukrainian Red Cross, and the Commissioner for Missing Persons.
During the meeting, a number of fundamental issues were discussed, in particular regarding communication between families and the relevant government agencies involved in the process of searching for and securing the release of prisoners of war. 
Among other things, it was reported that during prisoner exchanges, no preference is given to military personnel based on their position, combat merits, or rank. 
The National Information Bureau systematically updates information regarding all servicemembers with whom relatives have lost contact and uses this information in the process of searching for and securing the release of prisoners of war.
The authorized agencies assured us that all possible measures are being taken to return Ukraine’s defenders from captivity in the aggressor state. In addition, all channels of communication with the International Committee of the Red Cross are being utilized to determine the whereabouts of prisoners of war and their state of health.
As a result of the meeting, we received answers to the questions we raised.
We would like to extend special thanks to the organizers for involving officials from the Territorial Defense and the National Police in the dialogue, which made it possible to address issues regarding the interaction between families and military units and investigators to ensure the effective collection of information about the circumstances surrounding the soldiers’ disappearances.
