Ilya Novikov, a partner and attorney at Barristers Law Firm, has joined the defense team for Yegor Zhukov, a student at the Higher School of Economics (HSE), who is accused of participating in the mass riots in Moscow on July 27, 2019.

Ilya Novikov, a partner and attorney at Barristers LLC, is now representing Yegor Zhukov, a student at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE), who was arrested in connection with the July mass riots in Moscow. The attorney announced this on his Facebook page.

On July 27, an unauthorized rally was held in the capital in support of unregistered candidates for the Moscow City Duma. During the rally, law enforcement detained more than 1,000 people. Three days later, on July 30, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case regarding the mass riots. Currently, according to official data, 14 people are already under investigation in connection with the case, including Zhukov.

On August 2, the Presnensky District Court of Moscow remanded the detained student to pretrial detention for two months. On August 15, the Moscow City Court rejected an appeal against the arrest, despite the fact that several million had been offered as bail for Zhukov.
