On May 17, the first meeting of the Scientific and Advisory Council of the Supreme Court took place.
Lawyers and scholars participated in the meeting.
Valentina Danishevska, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, welcomed all those present. Dmytro Luspennik, a Supreme Court justice and secretary of the Supreme Court Plenum, also addressed the participants. During the meeting, Leonid Loboyko, a judge of the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court and scientific secretary, outlined the range of pressing issues and tasks facing the Scientific Advisory Council of the Supreme Court. Among the speakers during the discussion was lawyer and scholar, Chairman of the Higher Qualification Commission of Judges Oleksandr Drozdov, who emphasized that in order to ensure the unity, consistency, and stability of the Supreme Court’s practice, as well as adequate judicial protection of human rights, it is necessary to take into account the latest case law of the European Court of Human Rights and the Court of Justice of the European Union.
As a reminder, the composition of the Scientific and Advisory Council under the Supreme Court was approved by the Plenum of the Supreme Court on March 30, 2018.
The Scientific and Advisory Council comprises 113 legal experts, including candidates and doctors of legal sciences, associate professors and professors from Ukraine’s leading law schools, distinguished lawyers of Ukraine, researchers from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, as well as staff members of the Institute of Legislation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
