Ilya Novikov will speak as an expert at the 1st AAU Judicial Forum

Ilya Novikov, attorney and partner at the “Barristers” Law Firm, will serve as an expert speaker at the 4th session of the 1st AAU Judicial Forum, which is dedicated to the first “procedural quarter” of 2018: inspired by experience.

Ilya Novikov served as defense counsel for imprisoned Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko and recently represented Ksenia Sobchak in a case seeking to have the registration of incumbent Russian President Vladimir Putin as a candidate in the upcoming election declared unlawful.

EDUCATION

In 2005, he graduated with honors from the Russian Academy of Justice under the Supreme Court. From 2005 to 2015, he served as a lecturer at the Law Faculty and the Faculty of Continuing Education for Judges.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Member of the Moscow Bar Association since 2011

Ilya Novikov’s clients include: Ksenia Sobchak; Ukrainian Member of Parliament Nadiya Savchenko; and political prisoners in the Russian Federation—Mykola Karpyuk, Stanislav Klykh, Oleksiy Chirnyi, and Valentin Vyhovskyi. Together with Oleksiy Shevchuk, Ilya Novikov served as defense counsel for Moldovan businessman and politician Vyacheslav Platon, who was extradited to Moldova from Ukraine.

In 2015, he was admitted to the Ukrainian Bar Association as a foreign attorney authorized to practice in Ukraine.

Since 2016, he has served as the head of the Ukrainian National Bar Association’s representative office in the Russian Federation (Moscow).

On December 15, 2017, he became a partner at the “Barristers” Law Firm.
