On the night of January 5, 2026, a Russian “Shahed”-type kamikaze drone struck the “Medicom” private clinic in the Obolonski Lypky district of Kyiv.
The drone flew directly into a ward where a patient was staying, destroying a wing of the medical facility’s second floor. Dmytro Smashnyi, a 30-year-old patient who was hospitalized with pneumonia, was burned alive.
The “Medicom” clinic does not admit fault and does not consider itself liable for any compensation.

Our position is as follows:
This tragedy would not have occurred if the clinic’s staff had properly fulfilled their duties. They did not wake Dmitry, did not warn him about the air raid alert, did not escort him to the shelter, and did not even tell him where it was located.
According to other patients, they were simply left to fend for themselves—the staff was busy saving themselves.
The post on the clinic’s website dated January 7, 2026, stating that when an air raid alert is announced, patients are invited by the staff to proceed to the shelter, comes across as cynical and repulsive.
It seems that the “Medicom” clinic is only interested in its patients when it needs to collect payment for medical services. We disagree with this stance and will prove in all courts that such behavior is unacceptable.
As early as next week, we will file a complaint alleging professional negligence on the part of the clinic’s employees, which resulted in a person’s death.
In the near future, we will file a lawsuit seeking compensation for emotional distress and financial damages resulting from the death of Dmytro Smashny.
We will hold “Medicom” accountable for the negligence of its employees and compel it to provide all necessary compensation to the family of the deceased.
