The court set the amount at 908,000 hryvnias (instead of the more than 8 million previously determined).
The required amount has now been paid by the guarantors. Once all bureaucratic procedures are completed, we expect Dmytro Ryumshyn to be released from custody in the near future.
It is worth noting how significantly the nature of the case has changed compared to the sensational statements made at the beginning of the year.
At that time, the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) claimed to have uncovered an entire “scheme involving draft dodgers” who were allegedly being sent abroad. The DBR also repeatedly asserted that there were no reports from the commander regarding violations and that there was “mass desertion.”
As of today, these sensational allegations are absent from the indictment:
- The investigation does not allege any “corruption schemes” or incidents involving “draft dodgers”;
- The number of incidents under investigation has been reduced by two-thirds compared to the initial notice of suspicion;
- The legal classification has been changed: instead of intentional inaction, the charge now refers to negligence in the performance of duty regarding certain circumstances.
What was presented as a sensational revelation by the State Bureau of Investigations has not been substantiated by the charges brought, which, in turn, also do not stand up to scrutiny.
