A verdict has been handed down in the case of soldier Artur Ananyev, who was assaulted by a clergyman of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church
The team of attorneys at Barristers LLP has once again demonstrated their professionalism and dedication in their work: the firm’s partner Andriy Yosypov, attorney Dmytro Zeleniuk, and attorney Dima Piven successfully defended the interests of Artur Ananyev, a volunteer with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in court.
"A verdict has been handed down in the case of a serviceman who was assaulted by a clergyman of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) at the Holy Protection Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Khmelnytskyi. Ihor Slobodyan, who was accused of causing bodily harm, was placed on probation for a term of 1 year and 6 months, with obligations imposed as specified in Article 59-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. "The victim’s civil claim was partially granted, with 37,924 UAH awarded for physical harm and 50,000 UAH for emotional distress," said A. Yosipov.
As a reminder, last April at St. Vladimir’s Cathedral, representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate beat Ukrainian soldier Artur Ananyev after he protested the Moscow Patriarchate’s activities amid the ongoing war with the aggressor state.
““How many more people must die before you stop attending the Moscow Patriarchate?”—these words, spoken by Artur in the cathedral, served as the impetus for the congregation to change its ecclesiastical jurisdiction and distance itself from the Moscow Patriarchate.
We emphasize that the “Barristers” Law Firm takes a principled stance regarding the inevitability of accountability for committed offenses and continues to provide pro bono legal assistance to Ukrainian servicemen who are defending our country at the cost of their own lives and health.
