Ilya Novikov, a partner at BARRISTERS, LLC, is a finalist for the 2019 Boris Nemtsov Award

Four years ago, Boris Nemtsov was shot in the back and killed on the Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge. In memory of this tragic event, the Boris Nemtsov Foundation is announcing, for the fourth time, the start of the nomination process for the Award for Exceptional Courage in Defending Democratic Values and Human Rights.

The main purpose of the award is to remind society that, despite pressure and the threat of politically motivated persecution, there are people who continue to speak out publicly in defense of the rights and freedoms enshrined in the Russian Constitution.

Previous recipients of the Courage Award include Lev Shlosberg, Ildar Dadin, and Nadezhda Mityushkina.

Thirty-five individuals have been nominated for the fourth Boris Nemtsov Award for exceptional courage in the fight for democratic values and human rights. Among them is Ilya Novikov, a partner at BARRISTERS JSC—a finalist for the 2019 Boris Nemtsov Award for defending those accused on political grounds.
