Ilya Novikov, a partner at the “Barristers” Law Firm, a Russian lawyer, and a Ukrainian attorney, will speak on February 27, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Legal High School with an original master class titled “The Potential of Jury Trials in Ukraine: Opportunities for the Defense.”
Although the right to a trial by jury is enshrined in Ukrainian law, this institution has not yet gained widespread popularity. Currently, cases involving a jury in Ukraine are heard exclusively in local general courts of first instance and only for charges carrying a sentence of life imprisonment. However, even in these limited cases, attorneys can and should utilize this institution to the benefit of their clients.
