Mykola Stoyanov, a partner at Barristers, LLC, served as a trainer for free legal aid attorneys as part of the “Accessible and High-Quality Legal Aid in Ukraine” project

On April 20–22, 2018, with the support of the “Accessible and High-Quality Legal Aid in Ukraine” Project and in partnership with the Coordination Center for Legal Aid, a training-of-trainers (ToT) program was held to prepare lawyer-trainers who will subsequently conduct training sessions on developing skills for working with vulnerable client groups within the #LegalAid system.

The ToT covered various aspects of working with vulnerable groups, as well as approaches to adult education, training methodologies, and techniques.

The training itself, which is planned to be conducted throughout Ukraine, is a unique program developed by a team of experts and aimed at developing practical skills for working with vulnerable clients, specifically establishing effective communication, practicing empathetic listening, addressing barriers to understanding, and adhering to the ethical and value-based principles of a lawyer’s work when interacting with clients—all of which serve as the foundation for the high-quality provision of legal aid and the protection of human rights.
