Oleksiy Shevchuk, a partner and spokesperson for Barristers LLP and Chairman of the National Association of Lobbyists of Ukraine, has publicly called for a review of the government’s approach to the criminal prosecution of taxpayers.
In his view, criminalizing tax disputes not only fails to contribute to budget revenue but also creates additional risks for business, the investment climate, and the country’s economic stability.
“The state should be interested in cooperating with taxpayers, not in prosecuting them,” emphasizes Oleksiy Shevchuk, highlighting the need to transition from a punitive model to an incentive-based and partnership-oriented one.
