Oleksiy Shevchuk, a partner and attorney at Barristers Law Firm, has been elected Chair of the Ukrainian Bar Association’s Committee on the Protection of Lawyers’ Rights
As the newly elected Chair, attorney Oleksiy Shevchuk announced that the UBA Committee on the Protection of Lawyers’ Rights will focus on directly addressing the regulatory framework, particularly with regard to drafting legislative amendments aimed at protecting lawyers’ rights. Another important aspect of the Committee’s work will be interacting with government agencies to effectively resolve issues that arise in the practice of law. At the same time, Oleksiy Shevchuk emphasized that the Committee will not compete with existing committees within self-governing bodies or at the Ukrainian National Bar Association, as the Committee’s primary task is to strengthen and support their work to ensure the effective protection of lawyers’ rights.
The Committee for the Protection of Lawyers’ Rights will carry out its work by interacting directly with lawyers, as well as by collecting and systematizing information on violations of lawyers’ rights. At the same time, the Committee will respond very actively and quickly to any requests from lawyers for assistance or to express its position on resolving a particular issue, which will also help minimize the bureaucracy that is often encountered, in order to respond promptly to any reported violations.
