February 18, 2019, Denis Ponomarenko, partner and attorney at Barristers Law Firm, participated in a preliminary court hearing in the case of O. M. Korniyenko at the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi City and District Court of Odesa Oblast.

At the beginning of the hearing, attorney D. V. Ponomarenko filed a motion to recuse Judge Y. V. Shevchuk V. of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi City and District Court of the Odesa Region under Part 2 of Article 76 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, on the grounds that she had previously participated in the trial of the criminal case, in which the appellate court had overturned the verdict. A motion to recuse was also filed against other judges of the panel of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi City and District Court of Odesa Oblast—S. I. and O. Yu. Pryomova, on the grounds that they had participated in the decision to place O. M. Korniyenko in pretrial detention and to extend that detention, citing procedural violations and the arbitrary nature of the decisions rendered.
