In the latest post on the “Lawyer Online” blog, Yuriy Radzievsky, a partner at Barristers LLP, draws attention to an alarming trend in criminal proceedings—the intentional disclosure by investigators of information about individuals’ private lives obtained during investigative actions.

Typical examples:

• Photos of personal belongings, wish lists, and personal notes are leaked to the media immediately after a search.
• The faces of individuals involved in cases are published without their consent, sometimes at a time of greatest vulnerability.
• Notable cases: the cases of Oksana Daty, Nestor Shufrich, and Volodymyr Prokopiv—in each instance, law enforcement officials did not hold back in their “media activity.”

But according to the law, information obtained during criminal proceedings must be used exclusively for the purposes of those proceedings—not for humiliation, discrediting, or creating a political effect.

Tolerating such actions poses a danger to everyone.

Because today it’s someone else in the photos, but tomorrow—it could be you.
