The Nadiya Savchenko Case: The judge of the Shevchenkivskyi District Court did not summon the defense attorneys from the law firm "Barristers" to address the issue of extending the period of pretrial detention and decided to hold the hearing without the defense attorneys present

Today, July 10, 2018, a court hearing was scheduled to take place regarding the extension of People’s Deputy Nadiya Savchenko’s pretrial detention. Right at the start, the prosecutor moved to recuse the judge. As of this time, the defense attorneys had not been notified of the next hearing.

Meanwhile, Nadiya Savchenko remains confined in a stuffy room inside a cage.

“I understand that the prosecutors deliberately filed a motion to recuse the judge in order to drag out the process and mock the Member of Parliament?” speculated Andriy Levkovets, a partner at Barristers Law Firm.

As it turned out, Judge Hardina of the Shevchenkivskyi District Court simply did not summon the defense attorneys—as evidenced by the absence of relevant documents in the case file—and decided to hold the hearing without Nadiya Savchenko’s lawyers present.
