COURT REFUSED TO HEAR THE "SAVCHENKO-RUBAN" CASE

On November 29, the Brovary City and District Court of Kyiv Oblast granted the motion filed by the defense attorneys for Nadiya Savchenko and Volodymyr Ruban—Attorneys Oleksandra Tananakina and Oleksandr Shadrin of the law firm “Barristers”— Alexander Tananakin and Alexander Shadrin, to return the indictment to the prosecutor due to its non-compliance with legal requirements. The court’s ruling also denied the application of any pretrial measures against the defendants.

As a reminder, Ukrainian citizen Volodymyr Ruban and former People’s Deputy Nadiya Savchenko are charged with committing criminal offenses under:

- Part 1 of Article 109 (actions aimed at the violent change or overthrow of the constitutional order or the seizure of state power),

- Part 1 of Article 14, Part 2 of Article 28, and Part 1 of Article 109 (actions aimed at the violent change or overthrow of the constitutional order or the seizure of state power),

- Part 1 of Article 14, Part 2 of Article 28, and Article 112 (attempt on the life of a government or public figure),

- Part 1 of Article 14, Part 3 of Article 258 (terrorist act),

- Part 1 of Article 258-3 (formation of a terrorist group or terrorist organization)

- Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 263 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosive substances) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Nadiya Savchenko and Volodymyr Ruban had been in custody since March 2018 and were released on the night of April 16 pursuant to a ruling by the Brovary City and District Court of Kyiv Oblast.
