On April 17, 2018, the opening ceremony was held for the Legal High School of Criminal Practice, of which "Barristers" LLC is an official partner
Defense in criminal proceedings is one of the most in-demand and promising areas in the Ukrainian legal services market, as criminal law risks exist today in virtually every field of activity. Attorneys need to stay on top of not only the latest trends in pretrial investigations and criminal trials, but also the constantly changing legislative rules. “Forewarned is forearmed!”—this ancient Latin saying has not lost its relevance today, which is why Legal High School has decided to “arm” lawyers — both those specializing in criminal law and procedure and those who wish to gain a deeper understanding of these issues—with practical, up-to-date knowledge by launching a new School of Criminal Practice.
This morning at LHS began on a musical note: modern hits performed in a classical style by the orchestra took on a new sound, setting a festive mood for those in attendance. The event also featured an indispensable element of any symbolic launch of a new project—a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This honorable mission was carried out by the founder of Legal High School and CEO of “Yuridicheskaya Praktika,” Rustam Kolesnik; the chair of the LHS Supervisory Board, professor at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, academician of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, and Doctor of LawNatalia Kuznetsova; and Yaroslav Zeikan, a partner at EQUITY Law Firm and representative of the general partner of the LHS School of Criminal Practice.
Welcoming remarks were also delivered to the participants of the ceremony by a representative of the expert partner of the LHS School of Criminal Practice—Oleksiy Shevchuk, a partner at Barristers LLP; Taras Poshyvanyuk, a partner at EQUITY Law Firm; as well as long-standing LHS lecturers—leading experts in the field of criminal law and procedure—Galina Kanygina, a judge of the Supreme Court of Ukraine, and Yevgeniy Solodko, chairman of the “Solodko & Partners” Law Firm. They wished the new LHS educational program every success and expressed their hope that the students and lecturers of the School of Criminal Practice would engage in productive, effective, and engaging work.
Classes at the new LHS School of Criminal Practice begin today. The first lecture, delivered by Alexander Lysak, a partner at EQUITY Law Firm, will focus on a lawyer’s conduct during a client’s arrest and the selection of a pretrial measure.
This Friday, April 20, at 10:00 a.m., at the Leonardo Business Center, Bohdan Khmelnytskyi St., No. 17/52, as part of the Legal High School (LHS) Criminal Practice School, Oleksiy Shevchuk, a master of courtroom advocacy and partner at the “Barristers” Law Firm, will discuss criminal prosecution for corporate fraud in Ukrainian business.
Specifically, the presentation will cover corruption, economic, and other crimes, as well as the misappropriation and embezzlement of property entrusted to a specific entity. The nature and purpose of forensic procedures will also be explained, along with why all companies are currently interested in this field.
