On December 4, 2020, Iryna Hlovyuk, Ph.D. in Law, professor, attorney, and Mykola Pashkovsky, legal advisor at Barristers Law Firm, participated in the All-Ukrainian conference “Higher Legal Education in the 21st Century: Challenges and Prospects for Development.”

The conference was held online and consisted of the following sessions:

SESSION 1. STRUCTURAL CHANGES IN HIGHER LEGAL EDUCATION: FORMAL OR SUBSTANTIVE TRANSFORMATIONS?

SECTION 2. ENSURING ACADEMIC FREEDOM AND INTEGRITY AS FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES FOR ORGANIZING THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS IN LAWSCHOOLS.

SECTION 3. WAYS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF HIGHER LEGAL EDUCATION IN UKRAINE: CURRENT STATUS AND PRACTICAL STEPS.

Iryna Hlovyuk served as co-moderator of Section 2, which addressed the following issues: prospects for the implementation of a unified state qualification exam in education and academic freedom in law schools; simplifying access to the publication of research results; publication activity as a criterion for the effectiveness of research and teaching staff; developing a system to ensure academic integrity; ways to foster a high level of academic culture among students; issues of academic responsibility for students and academic and teaching staff; and academic plagiarism and self-plagiarism.

Mykola Pashkovsky delivered a presentation titled “The Application of Innovative Pedagogical Technologies in Legal Education” during Session 3, which addressed the following issues: the practical component in the system of training higher education students; the integration of modern information technologies into the educational process; the use of innovative teaching methods in the context of training lawyers; interdisciplinary study programs; postgraduate education (retraining and professional development); the issue of in-depth foreign language study; legal education and the creation of a modern scientific and educational environment.
