An interview with Andriy Fomin, an attorney at BARRISTERS Law Firm, about the early local elections

No sooner had the Central Election Commission finished processing all the parliamentary election results than talk began in Ukraine about possible early local elections. Political analysts unanimously agree that the new administration wants to secure a majority in local government as well, while it still enjoys record-high public support.

President Zelenskyy’s Office does not rule out such a scenario, although it has not officially confirmed anything. Especially since there are currently no legal grounds for holding early local elections.

But are there any loopholes in the current law that would allow them to be held?
