The Barristers team is representing the rights and interests of military servicemember Artur Ananyev
“How many more people have to die before you stop attending the Moscow Patriarchate?”—these were the exact words spoken by soldier Artur Ananyev during a service at the Holy Intercession Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (MP), and it was precisely these words that so offended the cathedral’s priests that they began publicly beating the soldier.
In a video that instantly went viral on social media, you can see a priest beginning to strike the soldier on the legs, and then other clergy helping to pin him against the wall.
Such actions are unacceptable toward any citizen, let alone a soldier who, since the start of the full-scale invasion, has been volunteering to defend Ukraine on the front lines.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the clergyman who initiated the violent actions against the soldier.
The Barristers team could not stand idly by in this high-profile case, and is currently representing the rights and interests of soldier Artur Ananyev within the criminal proceedings. In particular, Barristers’ attorneys have prepared a series of procedural documents aimed at securing the soldier’s status as a victim in the criminal proceedings, as well as at conducting procedural actions with our participation.
The pretrial investigation is ongoing, and the Barristers team will provide updates on its progress in future posts.
The Barristers attorneys working on the case are: Bohdan Zabara, Andrii Yosypov, Dmytro Zeleniuk, and Dima Piven#barristers
