Commentary by Andriy Levkovets, attorney and partner at Barristers LLC, regarding the extension of Serhiy Skrypka’s pretrial detention despite the bail posted by ATO veterans

For the fourth time, Serhiy Skrypka, a father of many children, is having his pretrial detention extended by the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv. His case, in which he is charged with terrorism (Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), is being handled by the Military Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine. Skrypka is not being released from custody despite personal guarantees from military personnel whom the Skrypka family helped by providing provisions, ammunition, and equipment during the war.

In turn, Andriy Levkovets, an attorney and partner at Barristers Law Firm, noted on Facebook: “There is no case against Nadiya Savchenko; the SBU has opened a case—allegedly on terrorism charges—into which they lump everyone they’re interested in, thereby obtaining authorization for covert operations. And now, anyone who comes under their scrutiny becomes an accomplice of the LPR, the DPR, Nadiya Savchenko, and much more. You can look up the case number and check the registry of court decisions to see how many rulings have been issued and on what grounds—there are a great many unrelated episodes, yet they’re all being investigated under a single case. And then, when necessary, they’re simply split off—just as they split off the case against Nadiya—to deny the defense access to all the materials, because there’s clearly evidence of SBU provocations there.”
