The process of forming the High Council of Justice is at risk of collapse due to the de facto suspension of the Ethics Council’s work as a result of a series of procedural and technical actions.

This was stated by attorney Oleksiy Shevchuk, commenting to Ua.News on the progress of the competitive selection procedures for the parliamentary quota.

According to him, a series of procedural and technical actions has blocked the Ethics Council’s work, making it impossible to continue selecting and appointing candidates to the High Council of Justice. He claims that certain participants in the process have effectively halted the competition, as a result of which the body cannot fulfill its function.

O. Shevchuk also believes that this situation calls into question the completion of the formation of the new composition of the High Council of Justice and, consequently, a key stage of judicial reform.

Separately, he emphasizes that blocking these procedures could effectively derail the judicial reform initiated by the President, since without a fully formed High Council of Justice, further changes to the system become impossible.

As reported by “ZiB,” O. Shevchuk previously emphasized that “certain entities acting as foreign agents are attempting to halt the work of the selection committee responsible for forming the new composition of the High Council of Justice under the parliamentary quota.”
