ECHR Ruling

ECHR Ruling

Another ruling by the European Court of Human Rights in favor of a client of the "Barristers" Law Firm was issued on April 13, 2023.
In the case of “Kornienko v. Ukraine,” the Court upheld the claim filed by attorney Denys Ponomarenko regarding a violation of Article 5 of the Convention, specifically a violation of the right to liberty and security of person.
Previously, the “Barristers” Law Firm team, led by Denis Ponomarenko, succeeded in overturning the court’s conviction sentencing Mr. Kornienko to life imprisonment. Mr. Kornienko is currently free, and the case is undergoing a new trial at the preliminary proceedings stage. The courts have been hearing the case for 15 years. The ECHR’s decision
of April 13, 2023, is the second ruling by the ECHR in favor of Mr. Korniyenko. In its previous ruling in 2018, the Court found a violation of Article 6 of the European Convention, specifically a violation of the defendant’s right to a fair trial within a reasonable time.
The team at Barristers Law Firm defends its clients not only under national law but also at the international level.
Attorney Denis Ponomarenko is a partner at Barristers Law Firm and the head of our firm’s Odessa office. His primary areas of expertise are criminal cases and the defense of human rights before the European Court of Human Rights.
