Today, we’re covering the high-profile case of Dmytro Ryumshyn, commander of the 155th Brigade.

What are the charges?

Dmytro Ryumshyn, the former commander of the 155th Brigade “Anna Kyivska,” is accused of allegedly failing to comply with reporting procedures to the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR). He is accused of allegedly failing to respond to soldiers who left their unit without authorization, as well as of compiling lists of “unmotivated” soldiers for a business trip to France.

However, the investigation deliberately omits the fact that such instances of non-reporting occurred during the colonel’s time in command. Regarding the inclusion of names on the lists for training in France, the investigation has been unable for half a year to provide answers as to exactly whom Ryumshin included on these lists. Therefore, the charges are legally unfounded.

Key points of the case
: - The initial bail of over 90 million UAH was reduced to 50 million, and later to 22 million UAH, thanks to the efforts of the defense team. But even this amount is beyond the means of a career military officer and appears to be a tool of pressure rather than an act of justice.
- The court has repeatedly refused to hear from members of parliament who were willing to vouch for Ryumshin. We view this as a violation of procedural rules and a lack of respect for the institution of bail.
- The defense considers the case to be politically motivated and is appealing to international monitoring missions and the embassies of G7 countries to draw attention to violations of human rights and standards of justice.

Our position remains unchanged:
We insist that the charges are unfounded and continue to fight for the rights of Colonel Dmytro Ryumshyn.

This case sends an important message to all Ukrainian military personnel: the state must guarantee them a fair and independent trial.
