The Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (UUIE) welcomes the decision by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko to appoint prominent attorney and public figure Oleksiy Shevchuk to the Selection Committee, which will conduct the selection process for vacant administrative positions at the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).

The corresponding Order No. 405 of December 23, 2025, marks an important step toward ensuring professionalism, transparency, and zero tolerance for corruption in the formation of key anti-corruption bodies.

Oleksiy Shevchuk is an exceptionally experienced professional; as chair of the Ukrainian National Bar Association’s (UNBA) Committee on Lobbying and spokesperson for the UNBA, he possesses the necessary practical experience and a deep understanding of legal processes.

His candidacy was nominated by the Prosecutor General pursuant to Article 29-1 of the Law of Ukraine “On the Prosecutor’s Office” to ensure the commission’s authority.

The USPP is convinced that the involvement of a specialist of this caliber guarantees the high quality of the competitive selection process and the independence of the decisions made.

The Position of the Business Community and the UNAA

Involving representatives of the legal community in the development of the anti-corruption framework sends a positive signal to society and the business community.

The independence of the process: it is essential to ensure that no external or political pressure can be exerted on commission members or the Prosecutor General.

Protection of professional integrity: Any media attacks or smear campaigns against Oleksiy Shevchuk or other candidates are unacceptable and damage Ukraine’s image on the international stage.

Legal safeguards: The principle that a lawyer cannot be equated with a client is a fundamental principle of justice that must be strictly observed.

The USPP is confident that Oleksiy Shevchuk’s experience and integrity will ensure a transparent and fair selection process. We call for ensuring conditions that allow the commission to operate independently and impartially, which is critically important for the stable development of the rule of law and a favorable investment climate.
