Today, the Barristers defense team filed a complaint with the State Bureau of Investigations regarding a criminal offense committed by O. Yu. Ryabchuk, deputy head of the Investigative Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police. The case concerns the unlawful photographing of the service of a notice of suspicion and the public dissemination of images taken in a private space.
Yuriy Radzievsky, attorney and partner at Barristers Law Firm, comments:
“We are dealing with a deliberate and cynical violation of Article 15 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine—a violation of the right to privacy. A photo taken in a hotel room early in the morning, without the person’s consent, was leaked to the media with the sole purpose of discrediting our client in the eyes of the public.”
The defense team emphasizes:
The prosecution is systematically and intentionally abusing its procedural powers;
The publication of private photos is a direct violation of the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure and law enforcement ethics;
The defense demands a legal assessment and punishment for those responsible.
Unfortunately, we understand that the criminal proceedings will have to be initiated through the courts—and we will be persistent.
