The team at Barristers, LLC secured an acquittal on charges of committing criminal offenses under Part 2 of Article 222, Part 5 of Article 27, Part 1 of Article 358, Part 2 of Article 358, and Part 3 of Article 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine
On August 6, 2019, the team at Barristers, LLC, representing a client charged under Part 2 of Article 222, Part 5 of Article 27, Part 1 of Article 358, Part 2 of Article 358, and Part 3 of Article 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, received an acquittal from the Svyatoshynsky District Court of Kyiv.
As Konstantin Globa, a partner and attorney at Barristers Law Firm, reported on his Facebook page, four years ago a client came to him whose story touched him deeply. He was shocked by the investigators’ arrogance, the lack of impartiality in the judicial process, and the “professional” victims in the case. In short, he was shocked by everything he heard.
When his assistant at the time, Inna Tetska, heard this story, she persuaded him to take on the defense pro bono in this case at the final stage of the trial—namely, the stage of submitting additional evidence.
Despite the complexity of the situation, we were, in fact, able to start the trial from the very beginning. During the course of the work, a few years later, the assistant to partner Konstantin Globa of the law firm “Barristers” joined the case—this time as an attorney, since she had by then received her license to practice law.
Through our joint efforts, we managed to conduct a truly fair trial. Before the closing arguments, the prosecution attempted to amend the charges four times; approximately ten prosecutors were replaced during the proceedings; the victims began to apologize and contradict themselves in their testimony; things began to unfold in which the prosecution and the victims revealed their true colors during the proceedings…
